Tim Walker

London based photographer Tim Walker has established himself at the cutting edge of fashion photography. His images capture a sublime moment in time, evoking a sense of epic drama and beauty. Stunning sets and lavish locations juxtapose the everyday with the absurd and the fabulous, to create captivating, original photographs. Tim’s evocative images are full of textured nuance and intriguing detail. His innovative photography is amongst the most imaginative and exuberant being produced today.

Industrial Facility

Industrial Facility at the Design Museum

"One of Britain's subtlest and most sophisticated designers" (Financial Times)

Industrial Facility is the London-based design office of Sam Hecht, Kim Colin and Ippei Matsumoto. A studio primarily designing mass produced goods, Industrial Facility take pleasure in the anonymity of everyday items, applying intellectual rigour, high design values and vision to products such as coffee makers, stationary and kitchen utensils. 

Running alongside the exhibition of their recent projects is a selection of items Sam Hecht has amassed that cost ‘Under a Fiver’. Drawn from all over the world, each item tells a story about contemporary culture, the nature of manufacture and marketing and the way we see and use things. These items are not just souvenirs and there are no famous names behind them or manuals required to operate them. These items exist from a human need which is local not global and cost under five pounds.

Competition for Coillte

In April Coillte flew the whole of our second year out to Cork in southern Ireland. They put us up in an expensive hotel and gave us a tour of their forestry, and factories that produce MDF and OSB. They set us a brief to design a food vendor for the olympics in 2012 using their materials. They were looking for new uses of their material, and trying to promote it to us as young designers.

It was a group project with a competition and prize money at the end of it. There were 3 main winners, and 2 runners up, of which our group was one of. 

There were a lot of really interesting ideas, and was a really enjoyable project to work on.

Our chosen brand to work with was Planet Organic who use the theme of markets to promote their food. From this we designed a market style modular crate system.

Out of the Ordinary: Spectacular Craft

An exhibition in conjunction with the crafts council at the V&A that was on from November 2007 till February 2008. A collection of eight contemporary artists who place craft at the heart of their practice: Olu Amoda, Catherine Bertola, Anne Cattrell, Susan Collis, Naomi Filmer, Lu Shengzhong, Yoshihiro Suda and Anne Wilson.

Together, these eight artists suggest new directions for the handmade in the 21st century. They have found ways to transform the ordinary into artworks that are truly extraordinary.

A free exhibition currently on at the V&A.

The exhibition selects books which reveal both the creative process and the soul of the artist in question. Some are iconic works which established the genre of the livre d’artiste after the Second World War; others are surprises from artists who are best known for their work with other sorts of material. Formats and production methods vary enormously. Some works show the virtuosity of traditional ‘hot metal’ printing techniques, others take the commercially-produced book as the starting point of their statements, yet others produce stunning large-scale installations and sculptures.

China Now at the V&A

About a month ago I visited the V&A and to see the new China Now exhibition.

It was really interesting and had a huge range of different things on show. Its definitely worth a look for anyone interested in any aspects of design, architecture or photography. It has everything from video clips to model houses to the first ever graphic design posters i

n China.

Second Year Exhibition

Just after Easter as a whole year we organised and set up our own exhibition. It was an interim exhibition for second years to show off our work so far. It went extremely well and those who attended were impressed with the level and quantity of work we had for second years.




Projects that I put in the exhibition were the intelligent making project my table, stamp storage project, and tractor seat project.
